The Loon Foundation has named Lana Brandt as the organization’s next executive director. Brandt has served as interim executive director since last October.

Over the past eight months, the foundation has navigated a period of significant leadership transition. Through this time, renewed energy and strong organizational momentum have positioned both the Loon Foundation and the Pacific Ocean Discovery Station (PODS) for an exciting next phase.

“Following a competitive, public recruitment led by a board hiring committee and third-party HR expert, we are delighted to see Lana step into this role,” said Loon Foundation board co-chair Will Corse. “Her dedication to our mission and her leadership in advancing PODS have strengthened the organization in meaningful ways, expanding programs, building partnerships, and preparing to break ground on PODS this spring. Finalizing this appointment marks an important step toward greater stability for the organization.”

Brandt brings more than 20 years of non-profit leadership experience in marine conservation and climate solutions, with leading organizations including the David Suzuki Foundation and the Rob Stewart Sharkwater Foundation, where she served as its first executive director.

“I’m honoured to continue in this role at such a pivotal time,” said Brandt. “Together with our partners and community, we are growing our impact on the Sunshine Coast and beyond to address urgent environmental challenges, while creating opportunities for scientific research, connection, learning, and collective action. PODS represents a powerful vision for our future, and I’m thrilled to help lead the next phase of this work.”
